Vancouver 2010 - Pairs Short

Well, it's begun! Here are my thoughts on the pairs short, which was yesterday night:

- I could appreciate that Shen / Zhao were lovely, but they really don't grab me. Having said that, I liked it better after watching it a second time, after most of the other pairs towards the beginning had crashed and doubled their way through their programs.

- I felt sorry for the Polish and Estonian pairs, especially the Estonians who I have a soft spot for.

- Even though I feel like I have seen their programs seven billion times this season, and they doubled their SBS jumps, I really enoyed James and Bonheur.

- I was shocked to see Caydee Denney double her jump, and definitely shocked by how low down she and Jeremy ended up, but still, by no means bad for an Olympic debut.

- Bazarova/Larionov are absolutely gorgeous to watch. Definitely ones to look out for in Sochi, I think. They're so soft and balletic.

- LOVED both Evora/Ladwig and Langlois/Hay! Anabelle Langlois looked gorgeous, I was really happy they managed to hold onto second for so long and honestly, I thought they should have stayed ahead of Dubé/Davison. I was also delighted for Evora/Ladwig, loved their performance and their music. I guess they had nothing to lose at this point and they went all out and it paid off.

- Maybe it was because it was so late, but I definitely feel like I missed something with the Italian pair. I thought they were just average but they placed really high. I'll make sure to watch them properly this evening in the free!

- My love affair with Morand/Dorsaz continues. I thought her dress was strangely cut and unflattering but loved their program! I am definitely excited to watch them tonight. There was booing when they were in the KnC - I assume it was because their score was fairly low. Hope so, anyway.

- Mukhortova/Trankov were heartbreaking in the KnC. Trankov looked so devastated. I was really hoping these two would do well, hopefully they can put the short behind them and still skate well tonight no matter what the result is.

- Has Morozov EVER landed that triple toe? I've never seen him land it. On the other hand, Tatiana V is an absolute star. He's retiring next season, right? Hopefully she'll get a fabulous partner.

- I loved, loved, loved Kavaguti/Smirnov. I really can't see why people think they were undeserving of the Euros title, they are gorgeous. Also, I really love Sasha Smirnov.

- Next season, nobody should be allowed to skate to Requiem for a Dream.

- Dubé/Davison kind of lost my interest after Jessica fell, and I usually like those two. I definitely would not have had them above L/H.

- Pang/Tong had the most gorgeous throw. Other than that, I was kind of too tired to appreciate anyone I had no vested interest in. Same with Zhang/Zhang, although I did like their costumes.

- All I wrote for Savchenko/Szolkowy was: gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous. I stand by that. I would have had them first, but I guess I'm happy enough with a gap that small. Hopefully they can either keep their silver spot or better it tonight. Their FP is spectacular. I have faith in them!
